A short-range loitering munition are precision-guided weapon systems that combine features of a drone and a missile. They are designed to loiter (fly or hover) over a target area for a period of time, identify a target, and then dive in to destroy it with an onboard explosive payload.
UAVs play a crucial and expanding role across a wide range of missions. A UAS includes the UAV (a drone), ground control station, communication links, and support equipment. Their primary advantage is the ability to perform persistent surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions without risking pilot lives.
